place

The development sits within a victorian terrace of houses, along a tree lined street. Previously thought to be a bomb site, it was developed during the 1980’s with low rise housing facing into a utilitarian car park.

Design

To create a garden for residence to share and enjoy. Strategic planting of trees and perennial boarders to improved views out whilst also creating privacy. Sustainable good practice lead us to design this low maintenance garden with draught tolerate plants so no irrigation system is required. The newly arranged car park will have a porous surface to allow rainfall to naturally replenish ground water.

Brief

Bold block planting creates an expansive look of simple complementary colours, which will compliment the new wood structured buildings. Textural hedges of Calamagrostis grasses and Carpinus form a structural spin for the perennial planting to flow around. Larger Robinia trees where chosen for their loose habit and upright form to root the buildings into the place. Drifts of small Amelanchier trees will form banks of blossom and moments of autumn colour. This will be a garden of year round interest.
